What can be more important than protecting your family and their health?

Finding a comprehensive family health insurance plan that suits your individual needs is vital. Without family health insurance, you risk financial devastation should a member of your family need medical care, suffer an injury, or need surgery.

The costs of healthcare today have reached monumental proportions so if you do not currently have coverage and can not obtain any from your employer, this should be high a priority.

Affordable Health Coverage can be difficult to obtain.
Once again, if you are not insured through a group insurance plan, the cost of a family health insurance policy can seem exorbitant.

When evaluating your family health insurance options, cost of course is a major consideration.

Family Health Insurance Options

Indemnity plans – have a larger selection of healthcare providers than managed care plans. Once the bill is received for services they pay a share of those costs.

Managed-care plans – HMO, PPO and POS plans use provider networks.  This means healthcare providers have agreed to perform their services for patients at pre-negotiated rates; most of these providers submit claim forms to the insurance company for payment.

Discount Plans - Contrary to some bad publicity some of these plans can offer some benefits under certain situations. If you are healthy, have no previous medical history if carefully selected some of these plans can offer substantial discounts.  Often times these plans include discounts on dental, vision, chiropractic care, and in addition provide some minor medical discounts depending on which plan is chosen.

All of the above plans have advantages and disadvantages depending on ones viewpoint.  Determining which option is best for your family should be carefully examined.

If considering a managed-care plan, evaluate the participating healthcare providers in your area there are enough and not too great a distance from where you live. Managed care plans generally offer lower out-of-pocket expenses and less paperwork. Indemnity plans may provide a larger number of physician options, but may require a greater upfront payment.
