• What does pre-qualify mean?

There are several types of variables that are used to determine if an application will be accepted.  Not all carriers have the same ones.  For the most part the most common questions that are asked include:

  1. Do you currently have coverage?
  2. How long has it been since you last had coverage?
  3. Do you smoke?
  4. Do you consume a (x) certain quantity of alcohol?
  5. Are you currently taking any medication?
  6. Do you have any pre-existing conditions?

Other factors that may come into play during a carriers determination to accept an application can include:

Family medical history
A blood sample may be taken
Blood Pressure may be tested

Once again different types of coverage examine different variables to make their decision.

  •  What if I can not qualify for health insurance and can not obtain group coverage through an employer?

Alternatives to insurance are a way of providing some form of healthcare coverage. Examples of this would be indemnity plans (mini - medical) medical benefits plans or medical discount plans.

  • How can an Indemnity Plan help?

When faced with the possibility of no coverage these types of plans can provide a sense of security.  Many of these plans are offered as a 'guaranteed issue', thus even with pre-existing conditions they can be obtained.

  • Annual Maximum Benefit Amount

This refers to the maximum dollar amount that a health plan will pay for all healthcare services provided within the year.

  • What is a co-payment?

This is a specified amount that a member must pay out of their own pocket for a healthcare service provided at the time it is received.
